Helen Hou is a collaborative pianist and web programmer currently located in Rochester, NY. She has the great fortune of being able to combine her various talents in her positions as Web Developer at the Eastman School of Music and Choir Accompanist/Keyboardist at First Unitarian Church. She also performs with others on a freelance basis and as a duo with clarinetist Adrián Sandí.
Helen is a graduate of the Master of Music program in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music under Dr. Jean Barr at the Eastman School of Music. She holds a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she studied with Dr. Dmitri Shteinberg and Landon Bilyeu. She previously studied with Suzanne Guy of Norfolk, Virginia.
An active collaborator, Helen has performed in recitals in Norfolk, Richmond, Rochester, Buffalo, Chicago, and San Jose, Costa Rica. In addition to her own studies on the piano, she has had the opportunity to perform for and be coached by such artists as Larry Combs, Richard Stoltzman, Orli Shaham, Jon Nakamatsu, the Miami String Quartet, Gary Hoffman, Zvi Zeitlin, and André-Michel Schub.
Helen is also passionate about large ensemble piano and has performed with the Oistrach Symphony Orchestra, the Hampton Roads Chamber Players, the Governor's School for the Arts Opera Orchestra, the VCU Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and most of the Eastman large ensembles, including the Eastman Wind Ensemble.
